The MK system has over 100 nodes across five trees, and only about 20–25 of them meaningfully improve your gameplay.

What Is BTD6 Monkey Knowledge? — How the System Works

Monkey Knowledge is a web of passive upgrades unlocked using Monkey Knowledge Points (MKP). You earn MKP through normal gameplay — completing maps, daily challenges, and leveling up your account. Each node costs 1–3 MKP depending on its tier.

MK upgrades apply automatically to every BTD6 game you play — except CHIMPS. CHIMPS mode explicitly disables all Monkey Knowledge as part of its rules. Every other game mode (Easy, Medium, Hard, Impoppable, Odyssey, Boss Events) benefits from your full MK tree.

There are five MK trees in BTD6:

• Primary — Dart Monkey, Boomerang Monkey, Bomb Shooter, Tack Shooter, Ice Monkey, Glue Gunner

Each MK upgrade requires the previous node in its branch to be unlocked before it becomes available. The trees are structured as webs, so most upgrades have multiple paths you can reach them from. You don’t need to unlock an entire branch to access specific nodes — you just need the connected node unlocked.

MKP accumulates from gameplay automatically. You earn roughly 3–5 MKP per day through normal play in 2026 — completing maps, achievements, and daily/advanced challenges all contribute. You can also purchase MKP packs with Monkey Money if you want to accelerate progress.

BTD6 Primary Monkey Knowledge — Best Upgrades First

Primary towers (Dart, Boomerang, Bomb, Ice, etc.) are the backbone of early-game defense. These MK nodes improve them:

• Bigger Piles — Starting cash increases by $200. This is the single most impactful early MK node because it lets you place your first real tower 2–3 rounds earlier. Unlock this first.
• Extra Dart Pops — Dart Monkeys get +1 pierce. Small but applies to every Dart Monkey in every run.
• Monkey City — Monkey Villages cost 5% less. Useful once you regularly build Villages, which is around hour 15–20 of BTD6 experience.
• Lasting Glue — Glue Gunner glue lasts longer. Skip until you regularly use Glue Gunners.

BTD6 Military Monkey Knowledge — Best Upgrades First

Military towers (Sniper, Sub, Ace, Dartling, etc.) scale into mid and late game. These MK nodes matter:

• Rapid Reload — Sniper Monkey reloads 5% faster. Since Snipers are strong MOAB-class poppers, faster reload means more DPS against BADs and BFBs from round 60+.
• Lots More Darts — Monkey Ace fires one extra dart per burst. Small DPS increase that compounds over long runs.
• Fighter Plane Protocol — Monkey Ace fighter planes have more pierce. Useful if you regularly run Ace builds on intermediate+ maps.
• Naval Upgrades — Monkey Subs cost 5% less. Good if you play water maps regularly.
